Told is a small village struggling with deep poverty. The biomass briquette project introduced a technology, by which the community can produce their own heating fuel from locally sourced waste materials. With this we want to provide an alternative to expensive or illegally sourced firewood and the burning of inappropriate materials that are harmful to human health and the environment.

Appreciation of the Jury
Technology customized on-site to meet specific needs has produced a simple, community-building, innovative solution to a problem of subsistence by using local resources. Only the mixer requires electric power and everything else is 'run' mechanically by hand or foot. Working together, the villagers continue to improve the production of biomass briquettes: how work is organized, which auxiliary tools are needed and how they can be improved. The application of academic knowledge can be so simple, enabling a way out and putting a better future within reach. A future that returns energy. Hopefully.
