15 municipalities in the Nockregion in Upper Carinthia are concerned about demographic change and have decided to work together in order to handle its negative consequences. The project identifies and prioritizes the main action fields, discusses them with the municipalities and helps to develop the best solution for each municipality as well as the whole region in order to create resilience.

Results of communal check-ups left little room for the “we can’t do anything about that anyhow“ attitude of political authorities. Potential fields of action were obvious. The only thing to do was to join local forces, to realise synergies, to link existing and possible initiatives, and to involve the region’s residents in a process of winning back – or sustaining – living quality and supply security. The issue at hand is to make people again proud of the region they live (or lived) in. The Demographic Agent project has successfully created a framework that steers and propels. Sustainable problem solving activities have been institutionalised in an innovative way.
